So I am doing a little short called "Albert' on XP Movie Maker (Thanks for the heads up Jack2 btw) and after I am finished the piece, which I THINK will be about 7-10 min, I want to convert it to a Mpeg-1 file What would be the simplest way to do this?

PS.. for all of those interested, a little preview can be had at:

I don't know much about formats. I can configure the deriver to convert from WMV to MPEG-1, but I'm not sure that is a good idea. If people here think it makes sense (i.e. it is not going from a lower to a higher res version - we should never do that), then I can do it, provided someone can give me some tips from doing it on Linux (we have all the tools we need - mplayer, ffmpeg, etc.)

To get the best quality from Movie Maker, save your final output in AVI format. Then download TMPGEnc (free) and import your AVI file, where you can transcode it into MPEG1 format.

TEMPGEnc is available at http://www.tmpgenc.net/e_main.html
